چکیده

The functional response of natural enemies and their interactions may be affected by host plant characters. Functional the adult females predatory mite, Typhlodromus bagdasarjani Wainstein Arutunjan to protonymphs Eotetranychus frosti (McGregor) on four apple cultivars Imperial Gala, Kohanz Golab, Granny Smith Lebanon Red was investigated. E. were offered female predator at densities 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 128 leaf discs (4 cm2). number length trichomes lower surface each cultivar measured. highest lowest observed in respectively. exhibited type II regardless cultivars. Also, values attack rate (a) handling time (Th) determined using Rogers's model. Adult T. had (0.0747 h1) shortest (0.7005 h) (0.0334 longest (1.1189 Smith. theoretical maximum predation (T/Th) 34.26, 33.79, 26.85 21.45 prey/day, estimated value a/Th indicated that most effective against Golab with trichomes. finding this study shows searching activity trichome density leaves.

Evaluation of predatory mite (Acari: Phytoseiidae) releases to suppress spruce spider mites, Oligonychus ununguis (Acari: Tetranychidae), on juniper.

A laboratory trial evaluated four phytoseiid species for their potential as biological control agents of spruce spider mite, Oligonychus ununguis (Jacobi) (Acari: Tetranychidae). An augmentative biological control approach, using the predatory mites Neoseiulus fallacis Garman and Galendromus occidentalis Nesbitt (Acari: Phytoseiidae), was evaluated for reducing pest mite densities and injury, a...

Biology of Typhlodromus bambusae (Acari: Phytoseiidae), a predator of Schizotetranychus nanjingensis (Acari: Tetranychidae) injurious to bamboo in Fujian, China

Typhlodromus bambusae Ehara is a dominant predator species associated with the spider mite Schizotetranychus nanjingensis Ma & Yuan on the giant bamboo ( Phyllostachys pubscens ) in Fujian, China. In the field, increased densities of T. bambusae were associated with reduced densities of S. nanjingensis on bamboo leaves. Laboratory studies at 22-30¡C on a diet of S. nanjingensis showed that fema...

Predation of Amblyseius longispinosus (Acari: Phytoseiidae) on Schizotetranychus nanjingensis (Acari: Tetranychidae), a spider mite injurious to bamboo in Fujian, China

Schizotetranychus nanjingensis Ma & Yuan is a mite pest injurious to the giant bamboo ( Phyllostachys pubscens ) in Fujian, China. The predatory mite Amblyseius longispinosus was explored as a potential biocontrol agent against S. nanjingensis in a series of experiments. Functional response experiments at six different temperatures showed that handling time ( Th ) generally decreased with tempe...

Effects of azadirachtin on Tetranychus urticae (Acari: Tetranychidae) and its compatibility with predatory mites (Acari: Phytoseiidae) on strawberry.

BACKGROUND The spider mite, Tetranychus urticae, is the major strawberry pest in Brazil. The main strategies for its control comprise synthetic acaricides and predatory mites. The recent register of a commercial formula of azadirachtin (Azamax(®) 12 g L(-1) ) can be viable for control of T. urticae. In this work, the effects of azadirachtin on T. urticae and its compatibility with predatory mit...

Predation of Amblyseius longispinosus (Acari: Phytoseiidae) on Aponychus corpuzae (Acari: Tetranychidae)

Aponychus corpuzae is a pest of bamboo in Fujian, China. The predatory mite Amblyseius longispinosus was explored as a potential biocontrol agent against Ap. corpuzae in a series of experiments on its predation on Ap. corpuzae . The rate of prey consumption (per predator female) increased linearly with temperature from 1.35 at 15°C to 5.22 at 35°C (the relationship can be described by Y = -1.00...
